Sketched, drawn and colored. Old views from Rottenburg parishes

A virtual exhibition by Diözesanarchiv Rottenburg

Diözesanarchiv Rottenburg has a wealth of outstanding sources: early views, sketches and plan drawings of parish churches and parish houses, chapels, school buildings and cemeteries. For serial views covering almost all the parishes of the diocese, these pictorial representations are extremely early: they date from around 1820, thus showing the churches and other buildings in their condition at the end of the early modern period, even before the period of historicism or the waves of neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque architecture permanently changed their appearance.

Threads of a life's work. The Story of Julia v. Bodelschwingh

A virtual exhibition by Hauptarchiv der v. Bodelschwinghsche Stiftungen Bethel

Julia v. Bodelschwingh died at age 80 after a full life. Together with her husband Friedrich v. Bodelschwingh, who was head of the institution from 1910 to 1946, she actively helped to shape Bethel. She was personally committed to many people and created new workplaces for people with and without disabilities. Throughout all this work, painting and weaving were always a constant in her life. Even in the last years of her life, her thirst for action and striving for change did not abate. She continued to courageously put her own plans and projects into practice. This exhibition tells the story of her biography. Historical documents and photos are used to illustrate the life and work of this independent woman.

100 Years of the Georg Büchner Prize

A virtual exhibition by Stadtarchiv Darmstadt

The Georg Büchner Prize was awarded for the first time in Darmstadt on August 11, 1923. Stadtarchiv Darmstadt took this date in 2023 as an opportunity to organize an exhibition on the subject of “100 years of the Georg Büchner Prize”. The exhibition focuses on the period 1923-1950, when the Georg Büchner Prize was awarded as a general art prize by the state of Hesse and the city of Darmstadt to writers, painters, sculptors, literary artists and musicians. From 1923 to 1932, the prize was awarded to two winners each year. After being handed over to Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung, the German academy for language and poetry, the Georg Büchner Prize was transformed into a purely literary prize. This last and very well-known phase of the Georg Büchner Prize is presented in several short thematic paragraphs.

The Neckar-Odenwald district set up its own archive in Mosbach in October 1999. This marked the end of the district's “archive-less” period. Until then, Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe, the state archive for the administrative district of Karlsruhe, had been responsible for taking over the archive material.
