Archives introduce themselves - Baden-Württemberg State Film Collection

By Daniel Schindler

The Baden-Württemberg State Film Collection is located in the House of Documentary Film and was founded in 2000 as the central archive for the state's film heritage. The film collection originated from numerous institutions and archives in the state. In the meantime, the collections have been taken over by over 130 state, municipal and private-sector institutions and more than 350 private individuals. New film collections are added every month. More than 12,000 films in all formats of film history are now stored in the cold storage of the Landesfilmsammlung Baden-Württemberg.

In addition to archiving, digitization and accessibility are among the central tasks of the State Film Collection. The archive material is used in international film productions, exhibitions and audiovisual products in all formats. Carefully curated film programs, various film education initiatives and the website also offer insights into the archive.
